There is a lot of confusion about contemporary and modern interior design. They are definitely not the same thing. Modern typically refers to the interiors design style that was created between 1920 and 1950. It really doesn’t change and remains the same. On the other hand, contemporary interior design will keep changing. And it is this ever changing nature that makes contemporary design their favorite choice when it comes to interior designs for many home owners and interior designers like David Guerra. He has worked on several projects and he worked on this particular project for a couple in Belo Horizonte in Brazil.
– Theme
The main theme of the project was to incorporate the coziness and solace of a house located in the country. The aim of this project was to integrate the country styling and comfort with the edification and beauty of a modern house in the urban area.
The couple had been living in their country house for years and they moved to the big city when their first child started going to school. For them the main priority was to make the house cozy like a country house and make it look dashing with all the urban style.
All the major changes were made initially, for instance, the wall that separates the living room and balcony was wrecked. This increased the space considerably and also brought in more light. The balcony was actually transformed in to a kitchen/gourmet bar for that occasional wine tasting with acquaintances and visitors. From the gourmet bar one will also be able to enjoy a panorama of the mountains.
– Furniture
The vintage armchairs which can accommodate individuals of any size and stature along with the linen sofa create an air of relaxation in the living room. Furniture is chosen to make the house, relaxing and elegant. One will be able to witness Brazilian designs (Frederico Cruze ,Sérgio Rodrigues, & Pedro Useche) as well as international designs (Minotti B&Bitalia, Maxalto, Mooi, Muuto, De Padova). For instance, the big sofa in the living room was reclaimed by JRJ along with a brand new linen covering.
The Sullivan tables with triangular wood and the still table are both from Minotti. The lens is by Patricia Urquiola adds more elegance and also adds a subtle air of fun to the room.
The dinning table are made of American toned oak, which are light and easy to move about, if need be. They also add comfort and greatly improve the appearance of the room. The leather chairs in the dinning room is from Minotti, which is quite comfortable, not to forget the stunning chandelier by Mooi that hangs from above.
– Floor
The floor has been replaced by means of prime quality mahogany planks, except for the wet areas in the house. The floor has also been treated with bleach to make the wood classy.
– Colors and material
The fireplace in the living room adds a vintage feel to the room. The main reason for the elegance of the overall interior design is the use of the right materials and colors. The warming ambiance has been accomplished with materials like wood, Silestone rock, steel, bronze, leather and glass.
