Tamara’s space is more than just a house, it’s also her office, her creative space, the environmental muse that inspirationally fuels her as a social media influencer.
To create a space where she feels at home, at work, at play, required creating a world of contrasts within her living space. The 12-foot accent wall takes up much of the space and attention as you make your way into Tamara’s happy place. The accent wall works as a piece though because of the contrast to the interior pieces directly surrounding it. The beam, the curtains the window frames, even the coffee table symmetrically placed against the wall represent the canvas on which the explosion of gold can take over your eyes and the entirety of the room.
This is a motif found throughout this project. The fuzzy white accent rug furthers the theme of contrasts as it breaks up the view of Tamara’s polished hardwood floors and creates a space-within-a-space. The hardwood is her own Yellow-Brown road to the contained comfort of her be-rugged sitting space.
In the ocean of contrasts that fill this Brooklyn loft, none are more striking than the somewhat shocking effect achieved while your eye moves along the gray and off-white wall, past the mirror piece and table combination- which is wholly in accordance with the theme of contrasting white’s and gold’s- to the eye-popping blue of her door which sticks out and in your ocular senses as a pleasant diversion from an otherwise consistent color scheme.
The kitchen space, where much of the work was done is a further exploration of subtlety contrasted with opulence. The whites and grays of the back and side walls are little more than set-pieces to the lights and paintings that capture your eye, and the quaint wooden stools that give this view the feel of a comfortable home, as a kitchen should be.
The ultimate accomplishment in this remodel job however is found in Tamara’s bedroom. The white of her living space is dropped for a feminine pink which if anything adds even more contrast to the gold motif. The placement is simple, yet effective. A bed, a cushioned end-table and two dark lamps to bring truly bring out the color of the bed and project it as a wire-frame of brown into a world of pink and gold, and with the sun contributing its own gold motif as it lays across her pillows, the effect is rather profound.
Ultimately Tamara Peterson’s loft is an exploration of how simple design themes and contrasts can have magnificent effects.
